Staff Positions

Intern Program

Dates: July 24-31, 2022
Basic Schedule:
July 24: Morning full staff meeting. Student check-in starts in the afternoon. Evening RA duties.
July 25-30: Classes, lessons, and rehearsals from 9am-5pm, evening program around 7pm, Evening RA duties

July 31: Check out and dress rehearsals in the morning, final concert around 3pm
Constraints/Ideal Candidates: This position is ideal for first or second year college students studying double bass and/or music education.
Responsibilities:
  • RA duties in under 18 student dorms
  • Assist with student supervision during meals, free time, and class transition times
  • Assist staff members during classes and rehearsals - Possibly playing along with students, demonstrating, copying music etc.
  • Assist admin staff with room set up for various activities
What BW Will Provide:
  • Free housing for all interns
  • Meal plan for the Peabody dining hall
  • Private lessons with BW staff over the course of the week on the topic of playing or teaching
  • Ability to observe classes and rehearsals when not assigned supervisory roles.

Full Time Staff

Dates: July 24-31, 2022 (Potential for optional participation in Alumni Weekend July 21-24, exact pay increase TBA)
Salary: $1,500
Constraints/Ideal Candidates: 
  • Ideal candidates for this position have a degree in double bass performance and/or music education and have been active in the field of performing and/or teaching for a number of years
Responsibilities:
  • Teach group technique classes
  • Teach elective classes on subject of your choice
  • Option for teaching music theory classes
  • Option for coaching chamber ensemble
  • Teach daily private lessons to a studio of students
  • Assist with Bass Orchestra Rehearsals
  • Contribute to evening programs
  • Teach private lessons to intern staff
What BW Will Provide:
  • Free housing for out of town staff
  • Garage parking if needed

Associate Staff

Dates: July 24-31, 2022 (Potential for optional participation in Alumni Weekend July 21-23, exact pay increase TBA)
Basic Schedule:
July 24: Morning full staff meeting. Student check-in starts in the afternoon
July 25-30: Classes, lessons, and rehearsals from 9am-5pm, evening program around 7pm

July 31: Check out and dress rehearsals in the morning, final concert around 3pm
Salary: $875
Constraints/Ideal Candidates:
  • Ideal candidates for this position are upperclassmen, graduate students, or recent graduates with experience in the performance or music education field
  • This position is not recurring . Candidates must reapply each year.
  • An individual can be accepted and serve in this role for a maximum of three years.  Note to repeat applicants: Since this is a new policy in 2022, any applicant who has worked for Bass Works as an intern or associate staff prior to 2022 can apply and if accepted, 2022 would count as year two.
Responsibilities:
  • Teach group technique classes
  • Options for teaching elective classes and theory classes
  • Assist staff with coaching chamber ensembles
  • Assist and coach students during scheduled practice time
  • Teach a small number of private lessons and/or semi-private lessons if needed
What BW Will Provide:
  • Free housing for out of town staff
  • Garage parking if needed
