Secondary Division

Dates for 2024: July 20-27, 2025 at Towson University
Application Deadline: May 1st
Program Requirements: 
  • This program is best for bassists of any age who have finished the 6th grade. (Exceptions to this are made on a case by case basis with a recommendation from a private instructor)
  • Students must be at least 13 years of age to apply for the residential program.
  • Private bass lessons are not required but each student must have at least one year of bass experience.
Program Options and Costs:
  • Bass Works 2025 Secondary Residential Program at Towson University - $1800
    This price includes room and board for the week. 
  • Bass Works 2025 Secondary Commuter Program at Towson University - $1200 
    ​
    This price includes the camp only and does not include meals.
Basic Schedule:
First Sunday: Check in starts in the afternoon
Monday-Saturday: Classes, lessons, and rehearsals from 9am-5pm, evening program around 7pm
(Commuters can be picked up at 5pm or 9pm)

Final Sunday: Check out and dress rehearsals in the morning, final concert around 3pm

Required for Completed Application:
  • Completed Application Form
  • $50 Deposit.  This fee is non-refundable and this will be subtracted from the tuition total.
  • If the student has completed less than one year of instruction, a letter of recommendation from your current teacher must be included with the application. 
  • If the student has not yet finished the 6th grade,  a letter of recommendation from your current teacher must be included with the application. 
  • All students will be required to submit a short video playing sample to be used for determining placement in chamber ensembles, technique classes, and parts assignments. This can be submitted with the initial application form or at a later date. Videos will not be used for admission purposes, they are used for placement only.​ This will be due by May 1st.
  • Tuition balance will be due by May 1.

Program Components:
  • Three private lessons with one of our world-class Bass Works staff members with the potential to purchase additional lessons with additional staff members.
  • Daily technique classes
  • Elective class options on a wide variety of subjects relating to the double bass 
  • Experience based music theory curriculum based on a placement test
  • Masterclasses with Bass Works staff
  • Daily scheduled practice time supervised by a Bass Works staff member
  • Perform in a double bass chamber ensemble with young musicians of the same age and/or ability level
  • Perform in the Bass Works Double Bass Orchestra with upwards of 100 other bassists of all ages and abilities
  • Daily evening activities and performances hosted by a variety Bass Works staff members and special guests
  • Meals, social time, and the option for an overnight dorm experience to meet and connect with other young bassists from around the world!
