We are delighted to welcome bassists of all ages, levels, and abilities to attend Bass Works, an extraordinary program providing bass students with unique learning, community and performance opportunities on the grounds of Baltimore’s historic Peabody Institute. Now in its tenth year, Bass Works 2020 will present a diverse array of offerings for attendees in both the Four- and Seven-Day divisions. All applicants who have taken at least one year of private lessons, or who supply a note from their current teacher supporting their application, will be automatically accepted to either division.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in bass orchestra, chamber music, semi-private lessons, recitals, and more. A range of repertoire and curriculum ensures that students of all ability levels will both have fun and be challenged. Older students who are either already doing pre-professional work or who are considering musical careers will benefit from seminars and presentations on such topics as practicing, auditions, and careers in music. The week’s activities will culminate on the final afternoon with a thrilling concert that will feature all participants.
Both Four-Day and Seven-Day participants will rehearse and perform bass ensemble and bass orchestra repertoire, as well as participate in masterclasses and student recitals. In addition, Bass Works Seven-Day students will be offered private lessons with Bass Works faculty, as well as one hour of supervised practice time each day.
Students in the Seven-day Division may choose to stay overnight on campus or to attend as day students. The overnight options are oriented towards students who would like to participate more fully in our evening activities and recitals, and enjoy working more closely with our faculty and Resident Assistants.
The Four-Day division is for participants who will not be staying overnight on campus, although Four-Day students can still opt to participate in many of the evening recitals and activities. If a student has completed seventh grade by July 2020 then they are not eligible for the Four-Day program and must apply for the Seven-Day program.
Our faculty of world-class performers and educators have the experience and knowledge to help each student with their skills as a bassist and musician. We look forward to welcoming you this Summer to Bass Works 2020!
