David Young
LA Opera
David Young received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the Eastman School of Music. And he earned his Master of Music in Performance and Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance from the University of Southern California. Dr. Young has studied with Oscar Zimmerman, Peter Mercurio, and Dennis Trembly.
A former member of the Rochester Philharmonic, Dallas Symphony, and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, David is currently principal bass with the LA Opera Orchestra and Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra.
Teaching at the Colburn School’s Community School of Performing Arts, he also founded and leads the Colburn School Double Bass Ensemble. Summer teaching involvements include Idyllwild Arts and the Peabody Bass Works program. He has extensive experience developing and performing concerts for children, and, more recently, presenting talks for the LA Opera’s Education Department about the wonders of opera.
