Brittany Bowen

As a double bassist, concert artist, freelance musician, and music educator, Brittany Bowen is an essential resource in inspiring and developing musician within the Baltimore area. On a daily basis, Ms. Bowen inspires students to demonstrate, motivate and prepare for successful experiences by developing their self-awareness through practice and performance. Ms. Bowen’s passion for double bass and education invokes a multitude of opportunities for aspiring Double Bassists searching for mentor-ship in the fields of orchestral performance, solo and independent contracting, music theory and jazz studies.
A Baltimore native, Ms. Bowen is a classically trained double bassist and has performed with various orchestral ensembles within the Baltimore Area. This includes the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra (Principal 2015/16 Season) and Hunt Valley Symphony as well as an event organizer and self-employed musician within the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan Area.
Ms. Bowen’s intuitive knowledge of state and county music programs, double bass curricula, and instruction of all ages was developed organically through her continuous involvement in adjudication and mentoring of state and county double bass competitions over the past five years. As a double bass judge and coach, she has lead professional double bass performances, private lessons, group masterclasses, sectionals, and prepared students for evaluations. Additionally, Ms. Bowen passionately advocates for leadership roles for students studying classical and jazz repertoire and provides feedback to orchestral specialists.
An alumnus of The Peabody Conservatory and participant in its Double Bass Performance and Music Education Programs, the Baltimore-native has developed an extensive network within the double bass community. Prior to her acceptance into the conservatory program, Ms. Bowen was a participant of the Peabody Preparatory program under the instruction of Matthew Boggs with the orchestral leadership of Gene Young. Her acceptance into Paul Johnson’s studio (2008) further nurtured her love for classical double bass performance which included orchestral and solo repertoire as well as musical pedagogy.
Since graduating in 2012, Ms. Bowen remains active by attending double bass programs throughout America and developing a studio where students receive double bass and orchestral instruction, music theory, history, and appreciation for an all-inclusive musical education. Her students strive for leadership roles in their ensembles in addition to fostering a desire to performing solo material throughout the year.
Ms. Bowen can currently be found teaching music at the Kennedy Kreiger Institute in addition to serenading her black-Labrador, Blues.
